Fun day walking with Toby and working with dairy farmers. They want me to go up to Ferndale next - CaptDale better want to make that drive with me. It is so beautiful there, and we can go the long way up the coast...perhaps we can convince some other Opponauts to join us on an overnight trip to Ferndale. If you haven’t been there, it is awesome.
Petaluma used to be the egg capital of California. There is still a lot of farming, and most of our organic dairies are in this region.

I’ve come to mostly associate Petaluma with 101 becoming very narrow and slowing to a crawl, unfortunately.

Have you visited the Lagunitas factory? I’ve heard good things about it. Love their beer and I used to drive past their factory on my way to work but never had the opportunity to visit.

I love Petaluma. My cousin bought and restored an old farmhouse out there. I happened to be in town in ‘12 when their little team made the world series. Drank with the locals and watched the game. Much different crowd than across the bridge.

Growing up, spent a lot of time with family friends in Scotia and Fortuna. Later in life, a girlfriend’s family lived up there. Now I am craving a hot dog from Bob’s in Fortuna.
On the Petaluma side, many years back was living/going to university in SLO (Captain Dale country) and heard Primus was playing an secret show at the Phoenix Theater in Petaluma . Five of us hit the road with no tickets. Upon arrival, my roommate sees Herb (the drummer) and jumps out of the car. Next thing we know, he lets us in through the stage door. Amazing trip!

Pretty much all of Marin is amazing.
I used to do a fair amount of camping in Point Reyes. But the first time will always be the most memorable. I had spent a beautiful, crisp January day hiking the Mayacamas (between Napa and Sonoma), then decided to head west in my car to find a campsite. I got to Point Reyes, made it to the ranger station about 20 minutes before they locked up. I came in with the attitude that I was willing to beg for any camp site they had available, no matter how unappealing.
Well, as it turns out, pretty much no one camps in Point Reyes in January. I was literally the only person they had all day that had checked in to camp. So I got my choice of sites. Found one partway up Mt Tamalpais with a perfect view of Drakes Bay and the ocean, hiked all my gear in, and got set up. It got much colder than I had anticipated, but had enough layers to keep warm. The cold humidity mixed with my water-sealed tent meant I had to keep a flap open to prevent condensation from building up and dripping on me in my sleep.
Keeping the flap open left me open to some early morning intruders. I woke to some rustling and flapping, only to discover a family of quails hanging out with me. Honestly, not sure which side was more frightened by the initial discovery. But they were cool. Once I woke up and packed everything in, I headed up to Petaluma for breakfast. Upon getting there, I realized why the town sounded familiar. So I ended up hanging out for a couple hours and waited for Lagunitas Brewing to open. Great little town, and I was sup er glad that I decided to spend half a day there.
All in all, a very good day. Sorry to hijack your post!

I live in Larkspur, there is so much in Marin alone, I keep finding more places. Last year I found Roy’s Redwood Preserve. I got a new kayak so we can go further in the water now. I love a Tuesday at Limantour in the off season and sometimes nobody else is out there.
